Letters
Lesson #2: Connected Letters

Arabic is written in a cursive script. The following flashcards display the different ways Arabic letters appear, depending on whether they begin a word, are in between two other letters, or end a word.

Directions: click a card to flip it over and see the name of that letter. Click one of the shuffle links to see the cards in a different order.

The following flashcards include arabic letters as they appear when connecting to a letter after it but not before it. Example: beginning a word.

(Note: ا (alif), د (dal), ذ (dhal), ر (ra), ز (za), and و (waw) do not connect cursively to any letters that follow them, but do connect to letters the precede them. Therefore, sometimes a letter in the middle of a word will also appear in the following way if they follow these previously mentioned letters that do not connect to letters that follow them. If a letter follows these previously mentioned letters and ends a word, the it appears in its isolated "single letter" form which was demonstrated in the previous lesson. Don't worry, it sounds a lot more confusing than it is and all of this will become very clear and apparent as you do the following exercises insha'Allah!

Part 1: Letters 1-6 (Alif - Hha)

Part 2: Letters 7-12 (Kha - Seen)

Part 3: Letters 13-18 (Sheen - 'Ayn)

Part 4: Letters 19-24 (Ghayn - Meem)

Part 5: Letters 25-28 (Nun - Ya)

Summary: Letters 1-28 (All Beginning Letters)
